I am a graduate of Leicester and Leeds Universities, where I trained in mining and engineering geology. I have since spent 25 years in geotechnics, initially in clay mining & UK site investigations but on 1st April 1988 I started work for the TM:L contractors on the Channel Tunnel where I ran the section responsible for the in tunnel monitoring, and have been a tunnel addict ever since.

My career has seen me fulfil a similar role monitoring tunnels, portals, shafts and affected structures for the contractors on the following major projects:

The A27 Brighton by pass tunnels.
The Jubilee Line Extension Tunnels Contract 104 (& 103).
The Ramsgate Harbour Relief Road Tunnel.
The Channel Tunnel Rail Link  -  Contracts 240 & 230.

Whilst the monitoring technology has advanced during these contracts, the principals that apply to its use have not altered.
